Austin Carpenter is a classically-trained bass-baritone and pianist currently residing on the Gold Coast, Australia. A Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship recipient, Austin studies at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University as a Bachelor of Music candidate under the direction of Mattias Lower (tenor).
Alongside his formal studies, Austin has been engaged in several Opera Queensland productions including “Project Rossini: The Barber of Seville” and “Project G&S: Ruddigore, or the Witch’s Curse!” (as a community chorus member) and the upcoming performance of Verdi’s monumental Requiem.
A lover of barbershop and a capella music, Austin has competed in numerous international, national and regional Barbershop conventions with the 8-time national gold-medallist chorus "The Blenders” and has also toured the United States competing in the World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio prior to undertaking his Bachelor’s degree.
As a classically-trained pianist, Austin has looked to expand his diverse skillset to include accompaniment which he incorporates into his teaching at his growing private studio business, successfully making his debut in Italy during a university programme to improve his knowledge of the Italian language.
Next year Austin looks to take his musical studies abroad to Spain to attend a short-term intensive program in Opera at the internationally-acclaimed Berklee college campus in Valencia.
Through his formal studies, Austin is enthused to continue to gain knowledge in the vast array of musical disciplines he studies, incorporating his knowledge into his performance and studio teaching and inspiring those around him.
